Time out for Young Carers – Telford & Wrekin CVS

Telford & Wrekin CVS was awarded £1,000 from the High Sheriff’s Fund to arrange an outing for their Young Carers and their families.  Laura Thorogood from the CVS reported, “Following the wishes of our Young Carers, we embarked to Telford Steam Railway for Alice’s Adventures to Wonderland, with singing, dancing, and an interactive performance.  The most outstanding achievement of the project was the positive interactions it encouraged between our Young Carers and their families, and most beneficially it really helped us to engage families with our services, who had not been before due to anxieties around attending.  This wonderful trip was enjoyed by 50 Young Carers and their families including those families who struggle to access other activities and events due to health and financial issues.  Our Young Carers were supported in having their much-needed respite time, as they often prioritise the needs of their cared for over their own wishes.  On the trip, they were laughing and engaging really positively with each other as well as the performers on the Steam Train, immersing themselves into the experience and out of their caring roles.”
