Fitness for Fledglings at Crowsmill Craft Centre

Crowsmill Craft Centre was awarded £1,250 from the High Sheriff’s Fund in 2024. The funding was for football equipment for students ranging in age from 11 to 16, who are attending Crowsmill as an alternative provision provider, having disengaged from mainstream school. Research has shown that football is excellent for improving fitness levels, encourages team-work and discipline and builds confidence and self-worth. Dickon Pitt, Director at Crowsmill explained, “This funding allowed us to set up a comprehensive programme of football skills for some of our students, which they have all loved. Not only this but one of our trainers actually used a video of these sessions to complete his AET qualification, which he never thought he would achieve!!
The sessions would not have been possible without the equipment you funded, and it has already brought so much joy to both the young students, and also some of the adults who have had a go too. The inclusion it has brought is amazing as some of the more quiet, anxious students have really started to come out of their shells through the power of football as their confidence has increased considerably.
Thank you once again for granting us the funds. They will be making an impact for years to come!!”
