Celebrating 13 Community Projects Receiving Funding Across Telford & Wrekin

We’re delighted to share some brilliant news for communities across Telford & Wrekin. 13 local organisations have been awarded funding through the Telford & Wrekin Community Capital Grants Scheme, helping them make important improvements to the spaces and facilities that local people rely on.

At Shropshire Community Foundation (SCF), our work is dedicated to supporting communities across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. We see first-hand the vital role that local charities, voluntary groups and community organisations play in everyday life. From village halls and youth clubs to community centres and theatres, these are the places that bring people together, create opportunities and make our communities stronger.

That’s why we’re so pleased to celebrate this latest round of funding, which will help 13 fantastic organisations make their facilities safer, more accessible and better equipped for the future.

13 Organisations, 13 Projects Making a Local Difference

One of the things we love most about working with grassroots organisations is seeing the variety of ways they support their communities. Every group has its own story, its own challenges and its own ambitions for the people it serves.

The successful projects reflect that wonderful diversity, with funding supporting everything from essential repairs and accessibility improvements to new equipment and digital resources.

Here’s how the 13 organisations will be putting their grants to good use.

2nd Donnington & 2nd Wombridge Scout Groups will replace damaged and unsafe flooring in their scout hut, creating a safer environment for young people to learn, explore and enjoy activities together.

Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge Community Centre Association will upgrade to energy-efficient LED lighting, helping improve the centre’s facilities while reducing energy consumption.

Dawley Town Hall will install acoustic door retainers to improve fire safety, supporting the continued safe use of this important community building.

Hadley and Leegomery Parish Council will improve a doorway and entrance to make the building more accessible, helping more local people use its facilities.

Longden-Upon-Tern Village Hall will purchase a replacement fridge freezer and new wooden tables, improving the facilities available for local gatherings, events and activities.

Newport Youth Cafe Project will upgrade its digital infrastructure, helping strengthen the services and opportunities it provides for young people.

Oakengates Town Council will make accessibility improvements to the Wakes Community Building, helping create a more inclusive space for the wider community.

Park Lane Centre will replace its passenger lift, improving access to the building and helping remove barriers for people with mobility needs.

PODS Charity will purchase replacement tables and chairs, helping improve the spaces used to deliver its activities and support.

Telford West Indian Association will undertake essential roof repairs, protecting its building and helping it remain a valued space for the community.

The Donnington Partnership CIO will carry out fire safety improvements, helping ensure its facilities remain safe for everyone who uses them.

Wellington Community Library & Residents Hub, part of Wellington Town Council, will improve its community room and study club, creating better facilities for local people to learn, connect and take part in activities.

Wellington Theatre Company will undertake roof repairs and building restoration work, helping preserve an important local cultural venue for years to come.

A huge congratulations to all 13 organisations! We can’t wait to see these projects take shape.

“These 13 projects demonstrate the strength, creativity and commitment of local communities across Telford & Wrekin. We are proud to support organisations that are making a real difference to people’s lives, helping to build stronger, more connected and resilient communities.”

More Than Buildings: Investing in Community Life

It’s easy to overlook just how important our local community spaces are until we stop and think about everything that happens inside them.

They’re where young people discover new interests, neighbours become friends, volunteers give their time and people find support when they need it most.

And often, it’s the practical improvements that allow all of that to continue.

A new lift isn’t just an improvement to a building; it can mean someone is able to access an activity or service they previously struggled to reach. A repaired roof isn’t simply maintenance; it’s helping protect a space where people come together. New tables, improved lighting and safer facilities all contribute to making community spaces better for everyone.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said:

“These projects demonstrate the huge difference that local community organisations make to people’s lives every day. Whether it’s improving accessibility, upgrading facilities, enhancing safety or carrying out essential repairs, each grant investment will help strengthen the spaces that bring people together and support residents across our Borough.

Community buildings are much more than bricks and mortar. They are places where people learn new skills, access support, take part in activities, build friendships and feel connected to their community. We’re delighted to be working with Shropshire Community Foundation to support these organisations and help ensure their facilities remain welcoming, accessible and sustainable for years to come.”

We look forward to following their progress, seeing the improvements come to life and sharing more of the stories behind the projects.

Congratulations to every organisation receiving funding, and thank you for everything you do for our communities!
